Charitable through Christmas

The advent season is just around the corner and so is the freezing cold weather.

For the most of us, the cold is just a temporary issue, which fades more or less when enjoying the Christmas season with a cup of punch and sweet chestnuts.

However, what falls in oblivion way too often is that not all of us are that lucky, but have to spend day and night without a roof over their heads.

None of us can imagine what it is like, to live with only a few belongings on the streets covered by the cold. Fortunately we cannot. It is a basic human need to have a warm place to stay and during winter this appears more important than ever. So I see it as our responsibility to use the spare time we have in, and fill it by helping people in need at this time of the year.

Isn’t this what Christmas is all about? To spread love, kindness and help? Yes, I guess.

So, there are loads possibilities to start with, still the ones where we have to leave our comfort zone seem to me the most sincere and effective.

To give u a leg up how to help others during christmas time I outlined and some of my favorite ways in the following:

1. Visit one of the Charity Punsch-Stände in Vienna

We Austrians love spending christmas season at our wonderful Christkindlmarktes, but why not choose a small charity one over the traditional ones from time to time?

They sell delicious punch and donate the collected money to non-profit/charity purposes!

This is definitely one of the easiest ways to do some good :)

2. Donate clothes

In almost every closet there are masses of clothes, we once purchased in a shopping binge but never touched afterwards. Now they are outdated, have been lying around for years and might not even fit anymore. Still we keep them, without knowing why…

But here’s the ultimate solution to get more space in your closet and give those unique pieces the chance to shine on people in need. Just look for “cloth-donation“ or “donation in kind“ on the Internet and you’ll be surprised how easy it is to find a better owner for ‘em.

3. „Suppe mit Sinn“ - “soup for a reason“

If you’re living in Vienna, then I warmly recommend you the winter aid campaign of the Wiener Tafel „Suppe mit Sinn“. It is about ordering soup at selected and socially caring restaurants all over Vienna from the 1st of November until the 31st of December. By eating a soup devoted to the Wiener Tafel you help the organization providing food to people suffering from poverty.

To me this is an absolute remarkable idea, and accessible to each of us!

If you want to find out more or ask yourself where to find these restaurants, here are the official links to the website and the location map:

4. Donate your time

Take part in communal events like christmas cookie baking, decorating and present wrapping, sessions or help handing out food to and with homeless people. These are definitely experiences that enrich the soul and heart.

I truly hope, that I was able to reach out to some of you to share and spread your help with others in need and in turn benefit from their happiness and gratefulness.

Bisous,

Lou <3
