Go go go. This seems to be the motto of society nowadays. No matter what you do or what you have already achieved it’s never enough, you always have to go a little harder, do a little bit better and push yourself a little further. We are always focused on achievements, what stands under the bottom line. Your value is reduced to your success.
But what about ourself, our body, mind and soul? Isn’t pushing yourself to the limit dangerous for overall heath?
Our society is built on people who make the impossible possible. What used to be the exception is the norm today. If you don’t work your butt off, you’re often no longer highly regarded in some sections of community. But to prevent breaking while giving your best it’s important to never loose sight of your work-life balance and most importantly to never forget to care about your soul.
Here are some of my top tips how I turn imbalance into balance and how I gain new strength for what is yet to come on this ever-changing pathway called life.
1. Go for a walk
This sounds banal but I swear it does wonders. Going for a walk outside -no matter if one hour or 20 minutes- clears your mind and fuels your body with new energy. Try to find some time when the sun is out and not when it’s already dark, so your body additionally gets some Vitamin D which is essential for your mood, energy level and power of concentration. I personally love to listen to a podcast while going for a walk or grab a coffee on the go, but it’s even better when leaving all electronic devices at home and fully enjoy being outside in nature. This also leads me to my next tip:
2. Digital Detox
In my opinion this tip is the most important one. All of us are so attached and dependent on electronic devices that we sometimes even forget the impact they have on us. To fully free your overstrained mined and be able to relax a break from social media is required. I often catch myself scrolling mindlessly on my phone just to fill time between appointments or during a study break, but instead of unlocking my phone I could just as well use the time to listen to a podcast, read a book, go on a walk or even smash out a 10 min workout. There are so many things we claim we want to do but complain that we don’t have the time to do them all - nonsense! We have enough time, but we often use it for the wrong things. The ultimate goal would be to define one fix hour -or more- where you forbid yourself to touch any digital devices. This will do wonders.
3. Workout
I know, I know, some of you may think - what?? how should I recover when working out- but truth is that working out can put you in such a good headspace, makes you feel that you have accomplished something, and also releases stress. For instant while running you can release so much anger and pent-up energy and everyone who works out regularly swears on being another person afterwords. Most of the time you will feel even more energetic and ready for the day after a sweaty session.
4. Make yourself a cup of tea
There is nothing a cup of tea can’t solve. If it’s a broken heart, bad gossip or a bad grade on an exam, tea helps to dry up all kind of tears. Especially herbal tea. It’s even scientifically proven that some herbal teas have a relaxing and soothing effect. So sit down on your coach, make yourself comfortable, drink a cup of tea, thank me later.
5. Put a face mask on and take a bath
Last but not least, the magical bath. Put your favourite face mask on, take a bath and close your eyes for ten minutes. This will relax your muscles and mind and will simultaneously let your skin glow. If you put some essential oils into the water the bath will be even more relaxing. If you feel clean and fresh and have a skin like a new born, you will automatically feel as if you can take on the world again. I mean, who doesn’t want to look pretty while rocking this life ;)
